History
Sanctuary Printshop began with Jed Taylor and Jon Pattillo.
In 2005 Taylor used what little money he had to buy equipment and start a small screenprinting company in South Austin called Chin Clothing. In 2006, Taylor changed the name Chin Clothing to Chin Print to open up more business opportunities. That same year Taylor and Pattillo crossed paths while Pattillo was running Fat Caddy Records, a independent record label. Taylor invited Pattillo to use his equipment to print tour merchandise for the record label and its many artists.
Over the next three years the two business owner’s professional and personal lives became more and more connected. In 2009, Taylor and Pattillo decided to officially merge and start Sanctuary Printshop. The name “Sanctuary” came from Taylor, who had an affinity for the word because of its typography. The clothing line associated with Sanctuary Printshop was named South Side Sanctuary, creating a reflection of the company’s South Austin location and style.
The Sanctuary’s heart and soul always resides in South Austin. Although, the actual shop went through five facilities across the Austin area prior to its current 5,000 square foot location on S. Congress Avenue. Today the Sanctuary Printshop features 3 screen printing presses, a heat press, and a killer 1940′s letterpress. Needless to say, it’s a Sanctuary of Awesome.
