What a scheduling conflict!  Back in our hometown, Austin Fashion Week rages on with showcases, parties and ceremonies.  At the same time, the world-wide retail and fashion industry comes together in the Nevada desert.

We're going to split the difference. For the next two days the Sanctuary design team will be at the MAGIC trade show in Las Vegas. Look for updates and features (on this blog and on Twitter)  on the trends and innovations we see from the world's leading clothing labels.

On Thursday, the Sanctuary will partner up with the Chief Ninja at Sneak Attack for a renegade street-wear party on Second Street as a part of Austin Fashion week.

TRIBEZA August 2010 edition

Apparently it's been a attention-grabbing summer for the Sanctuary Printshop. For the second time in a week we have been featured in one of Austin's premier publications, TRIBEZA magazine. In addition to our feature story on pg 76, the August 2010 edition also features many friends of the Sanctuary:

• Zoe Cordes Selbin, the wonder-kid prodigy of Transmission Entertainment (pg 24) - wearing the South Side Sanctuary Leopard shirt, BTW
• Jill & Aaron of Knuckle Rumbler (pg 34) - with whom we are throwing the "Chicken and Waffles w/ Soul Track Mind" at the ND on Aug 18th. Much more about that later...

Tonight the Sanctuary will be celebrating a big milestone for some of our newest friends: KirinClothing.com.  These like-minded designers have set out to create their own brand of smart and fashionable street wear. Apart from digging their designs and style, The Sanctuary got to print some of the latest designs on their behalf.

The festivities take place from 9p - Midnight tonight (Friday 7/30) at The Sanctuary's retail partner-in-fashion Sneak Attack (2nd & Guadalupe - downtown Austin,  TX).  DJ Digg & Panavinci plan to spin rhythmic beats on the 1's & 2's [urban lingo  for disc jockey turntables turntables] and free drinks (while supplies last) provided by Treaty Oak Rum.

More than that, the intern team learned (on their own) the First Rule of the Sanctuary:

"You shall only increase in Awesome, you do not decrease in awesome."

Kelsey and Ricky figured this one out on their own. It's so important they wrote it on the big board.

We can't say enough about the good folks at Community Impact, back in March they did a short blurb about our El Camino activities during SXSW .  For this story we recounted the history of the Sanctuary, which revived some good memories for both Jon and Jed.

After reading the finished article it is hard to  believe we have come so far in just 6 years. All of the thanks, of course, goes to you - our loyal customers and fans.

Here's a a slice (We're thinking this is Pulitzer worthy...):

Originally starting print work from Taylor’s garage five years ago, the two realized they had a knack for combining the creative elements of design with the technical aspects associated with printing.

“Sometimes [people] have to separate the two, where [they] design something and have to hand it off to someone else to print it,” Pattillo said. “We are just both guys that like to make stuff with our hands, and we like to design stuff with our heads. That’s what we do.”

Skilled in the elements of form and function, Patillo and Taylor steadily grew their client base and moved from studio to studio as both of their separate businesses grew. Eventually they decided to make their working relationship official. In 2009 the self-proclaimed “artists who happen to own a print shop” created Southside Sanctuary.

“Every day I am surprised,” Patillo said of the growing interest in the business. “The biggest surprise is that we have been as large as we are; our kitchen in our shop now is bigger than our whole first shop. It is wild.”
