DESIGN:
Above all things, we are creators.
We are designers. We are makers.
Most of all, we are passionate about making things look good.
Looking bad is not an option we offer.
BUILD:
In the days of iEverything, craftsmanship is key. The Sanctuary is filled with big machines and tools that we handle with ease. From screen-printing shirts to custom building stages, we value being hands on in our work.
EXPERIENCE
In our work, adventure leads to discovery and discovery leads to memories that last. That’s our goal.
We create more than a product.
We create an experience for our clients and their customers.

Mural design and paint for Sixth Street Historic District

Sanctuary loves Austin, and we take great pride in helping this city look as vibrant and unique as the culture it boasts.

Our latest opportunity to give back to this city came when Sanctuary noticed a blank wall entering the Sixth Street Historic District. To Sanctuary, it was a blank canvas with huge potential. We approached the business district and offered to design and paint a mural on the wall… just because. Just because we love being creative. Because we love this city. Because we could. And because it would be something Austinites and tourists would enjoy and remember.

The mural design is inspired by a Sanctuary designer’s recent trip to West Texas, and all the old hand-painted signs in the towns he passed through. The design combines classic Texas sign painting and hand-made feeling with a modern twist. The bright colors and boldness of text make it a perfect photo-op while encompassing the cheerful, independent and proud spirit of Austin.

With the design finalized, production began. Using a technique called “pouncing,” the artists first outlined the design using a graphite powder. Then, the painting began. Sanctuary spent each night  hand-painting the mural from 9 p.m.- 3 a.m. After one week and a lot of elbow grease, the mural was complete.

And now it’s yours, Austin. Play your guitars in front of it, have your pictures taken with it and as your walking into the Sixth Street District just remember to toast this great city we live in.
