Mmmm… Bacon, Bacon, Bacon
On September 9, 2011 Bacon opened its doors for the first time and the corner of 10th & Lamar hasn’t been the same since. With mouth-watering bacon eats and a modern design style, this niche diner is the newest Austin hit.
M. Brady Clark, a good friend of Sanctuary and master designer, is responsible for the Bacon logo you see illuminated on the neon sign outside the restaurant. The vision behind the logo is to highlight the bacon portion of the pig. Clark executed this by sectioning it off, using a different color and placing the restaurants’ name inside the section.
Using this logo as a starting point, Jed Taylor and Clark collaborated to design Bacon’s t-shirt line, stickers, collectible cups and menus using a collection of letterpress, old vintage ads and a mixture of Duke and BondiCY style fonts. The shirts and menus were screen-printed at Sanctuary Printshop.
The exterior of Bacon is just as custom as the interior. Dan Grissom, Sanctuary’s letterpress master and talented painter, added style to the outside by painting a wall size mural of an American flag design adapted from a Willie Nelson poster. Add bronze bacon door handles, a giant pig named Blue, custom designed neon, window signage, a front door awning and a giant “900″ depicting the location, and Bacon is sure to catch your eye.
The designing hasn’t stopped, so make sure to stay updated with recent Bacon happenings by following @BaconRestaurant and liking their page on Facebook.
