On Feb. 21st, the Spring 2009 South Side Sanctuary t-shirt line debuted at the “River Flows East” party. The Warehouse on E. 12th, normally housing more industrial-type mumbo jumbo, transformed into a full-fledged party palace.

Produced by Sanctuary allies (and completely wonderful party planners) Vinyl Entertainment, the evening was a fantastic display of local art, music, drinks, fashion and photography. You think we’re kidding? Just check out who was in attendance:

-Drinks by Sweet Leaf Tea and Lone Star Beer
-Live performances by What Made Milwaukee Famous and The Story Of
-Annie Ray, an Austin-based photographer
-DJ sets by Thibault, Markus with a K, and the Octopus Project
-Art installations by Michelle Devereux
-Hair designs by Emily Kleinsorge
-Live graffiti by Miguel Maldonado

And, of course, onsite screen-printing by the Sanctuary Printshop and the debut of South Side Sanctuary’s new 2009 t-shirt line.

What Made Milwaukee Famous performed songs from their newest Barsuk-released record, What Doesn’t Kill Us, an indie-rock production of energy and wit.

MTV2 featured band The Story Of… opened the night, whilst DJ’s Markus with a K, Thibault and members of Octopus Project entertained the crowd in-between sets.

The Sanctuary booth lit up the cold evening, servicing the nearly 1,500 guests at the event that night. Printshop sensei Jed Taylor, manning the mobile screen-printing unit, made special on-demand shirts for party-going hipsters.

The Sanctuary’s resident capitalist pig, Jon Pattillo, manned the South Side Sanctuary booth, selling the new wears to the laboring (and slightly inebriated) masses. The new shirts ranged from virtual-reality-twisters, 60’s inspired logos, underground cock fights on the South Side, and Virgin Mary fireworks.

Watch for the online store to start offering the new line soon- and don’t forget to visit the Sanctuary at SXSW ’09, where the new t-shirts will be sold from March 18-21 at Jo’s on S. Congress.
